Essential Baby Clothes to Have

April 6, 2021 | Leave a Comment

As a new mom, it can be tempting to buy all the clothes and baby gear out in the market. However, you don’t have to give in, especially if you want to be a practical mother. What you should need to focus on are the essentials, such as the clothes your little one will actually wear. Your baby won’t need a lot, so here is what you need to have so they will stay comfortable.

Cloth Diapers

Your baby will need tons of these, which is why it would be much more practical to buy cloth diapers that you can wash after every use rather than buying disposable diapers that would only pile up in your garbage bin. You can get a cloth diaper that comes with adjustable buttons so your child can still wear them until it is time to be potty trained. It will also be a good practice to let your baby’s skin have time to breathe in between diaper changes by letting them wear underwear. What types of baby underwear should you buy? It should be made of breathable cloth.

Bodysuits

Your baby should have at least four to six bodysuits in their wardrobe. These clothing essentials will be very useful during cold nights when they are sleeping in their crib. You can also have your child wear this for their checkups.

Side-Tie or Side-Snap T-Shirts

It would also be wise to get side-tie or side-snap shirts for your baby, since it would be easier on your part to dress your baby up, rather than constantly having to move the baby’s head when putting on traditional shirts. With a side-tie, you can simply lay the shirt down on the bed and place your baby on top and tie off the shirt. This shirt style is best until the baby’s umbilical cord separates.

Long Pants

Get your baby two to four pairs of long pants. These can be an alternative to bodysuits because you can easily remove them in case your baby feels hot and quickly put them on if the weather is cold. They are great for pairing with your baby’s onesie.

Sleep Sack

Since it would be dangerous to put your baby in a crib with a blanket because of the increase in the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), having a sleep sack is a wise investment. You don’t have to worry about your child since they will be kept warm and safe during cold nights.

Knit Cap

For babies born during winter or colder months, having a knit cap is a must. Remember, the heat coming from the baby’s body will usually escape from their head, and a cap can help them regulate their temperature better.

Mittens and Socks

You should also have mittens and socks to keep your baby warm during the day. Mittens are also particularly useful for preventing scratches since babies tend to put their hands on their faces.

Takeaways

When buying baby clothes, you have to factor in that most newborn sizes would measure up to eight pounds. If they are on the big side, it would be wiser to buy clothes sized until three months old. Take note that different brands would vary in their sizes so you should base on the measurements rather than the size alone.

Remember, you don’t have to buy too many clothes because your baby will outgrow them within the next few weeks. Keep in mind that you may have to change their clothes several times a day, so it is also important to factor in how much you are willing to do laundry when deciding on how many pieces of clothing you will buy.
