Free Apps And Websites To Tutor Your Child

August 14, 2019 | Leave a Comment

When a child struggles and the budget is tight, tutoring can become a frustrating ordeal. Some schools offer after-school programs that help with homework. Sometimes you can help. I have looked at several apps and websites that are helpful to tutor your child. They are all free and can be a lifesaver. Some of them are so much fun, your child might want to visit them when they don’t need tutoring.

Apps Are Where It’s At

Getting a free app on the phone or tablet is always helpful for children. They have fun playing games that teach them great lessons. They can use them during school breaks, summer vacations, and tutoring.

Sparky and the Case of Missing Smoke Alarms is a free game for iPhone, iPad, and Android. It is a reading game to help children practice what they have learned. They can also use it for maintaining their reading level or to improve.

For help with math, Math Fight is a good choice. It is available for iPhone, iPad, and Android. Two players solve problems to win the fight. Or you can try out Math Games Zeus vs. Monsters. It also available for iPhone, iPad, and Android. Mixing math problems and mythology is a good way to keep the kids interested.

For The Sake Of Science

Science can be a hard subject when children need to memorize the names of body parts and their functions. Interactive play is a great way to get them to understand the concepts and keep the information.

Curiosity Machine is a great website for the whole family. They host an annual artificial intelligence problem each year for families. Children can also use online platforms to talk with engineers and learn more.

Science Kids is the website to use to practice what they are studying in school. All subjects feature smaller modules so that the child is not overwhelmed. They can work at their pace. Everything is interactive so that your child can remember things easier.

Improving Math Skills

Corbett Maths is a fantastic website to help children from K-12. It features math videos, practice questions, and worksheets. The website is in England but applies to anyone around the world

GregTangMath.com is another site for children K-6. Tons of games and puzzles are available to practice their math level. You can also download worksheets with math problems.

Don’t discount some old tried and true methods. When I was young, I struggled with subtraction. My parents bought the workbooks in the grocery store and I did well with extra practice. Look for Bill Nye videos for fun science lessons. If your child gets stressed when they first start, practice patience. Let them take five minutes to collect themselves. Come back to it a little bit later. Make sure they aren’t tired or hungry when it is time to do extra study. Sometimes a long day at school means they need some extra rest.
