It’s every parent’s worst nightmare – stuck at home with nothing to entertain the kids.
The good news is, there’s so much more to do with young boys beyond screen time and computers. Encourage them to create, think, and play, all by using common materials already around your home.
Read on to learn our top five activities for bored boys, sure to turn an uninspiring day into a fun and educational experience.
1. Get Cooking
If your boys are old enough, cooking is one of the most fun activities to do with kids. Even without handling knives, there are lots of things kids can do to help in the kitchen.
Let them decorate cookies, put together their pizza toppings, or knead the dough. Or, give them the challenge of creating a dinner menu, preparing salads, or making sauces.
It’s fun for them and also helps instill a love of cooking.
2. Make Your Own Play Dough
Playdough can seriously give hours and hours of entertainment for children, especially if you’re stuck inside.
But, it’s even more fun to make your own than it is to buy it.
You can easily create your own play dough at home with ingredients you already have in the pantry, including flour, food coloring, and salt.
3. Organize a Home Scavenger Hunt
Every kid loves the challenge of a scavenger hunt. Create your own, complete with a prize for the winner, with items that can be found around your home or yard.
Use your imagination, as anything would be included. Why not a blue pen, a feather, a penny from the year 2000, or a photo from the last family holiday?
It’s a challenge that will keep kids occupied and can be fun for everyone.
4. Camp in the Backyard
Maybe you can’t travel, but you can bring travel to you. Set up camp, complete with a tent, and smores over the fire, in the comfort of your backyard.
It’s so much fun to look up and see the stars, and sleeping outside is a big adventure, even if you’re only feet from the back door. Tell spooky stories, look for constellations, and enjoy quality time as a family.
Don’t let winter get in the way of your life… camping can be fun even in the cooler months, too!
5. Build a Fort
Once imaginations run wild, boys are occupied for what seems like forever. Get them the tools they need to play and create by building forts.
This can easily be done with things around the house, like old cardboard boxes, Tupperware, sheets, and laundry racks. It may not look like much to you, but to them, it’s a cubby house/fort/castle of their dreams.
Beat Boredom
Busting boredom, inspiring creativity, and keeping minds and bodies active are some of the best things to do with boys inside. With a bit of planning and effort, you can help your children have hours of fun, freeing you up to focus on other things.
Staying home doesn’t need to be dull, so try out some of these activities for bored boys today.
