Continue reading to learn how to draw a birthday cake with your kids using these easy tips and tricks.

How to Draw a Birthday Cake

To get started, you’ll first need to draw an oblong circle. This is going to be at the top of the cake and give it depth. You’ll then draw two vertical lines on either end of your oval for the sides.

Now let’s add some candles. These are some simple straight lines at the top of the cake. Makes two lines spaced narrowly apart, one for either side of the candle. Space them evenly throughout the top of your cake.

You can also add some curved lines around the base of the candles to create mounds. This will make them look like they are stuck in the cake’s icing. Now connect either side of the candle with a straight horizontal line to make the top.

To finish the candles, you’ll need to add some wavy lines for the flames. You’ll also need to add a straight line for a wick at the top of your candle.

Once you’re completely done, you can save some time and money by sending your drawing electronically. You can upload the creation to a site and send an ecard for free!

Good Enough to Eat

Now that you have the basic layout, draw a curved line along the bottom to connect the two vertical sides of your cake. If you want to add some texture, decorative shapes, or words around the side of the cake, make sure it follows the same curve as the bottom of the cake.

You may also choose to add some icing dripping from the sides of your cake. You can do this by adding curvy lines along the sides. Or give your cake a face with some large cute eyes and a big smile.

Want to add fancy tiers to your cake? It’s easy to include some extra flair to your cake by putting some smaller tiers stacked on top. Simply start at the beginning with the first step. Add sides or two vertical lines that are closer together on top of your largest oval top.

Create an oval to connect these narrower sides. You can add more tiers by repeating these steps and creating another set of vertical parallel lines on the second tier up. Then connect them with another oval.

If you want, you can add another oblong circle at the bottom to create a plate for your cake to sit on.

Finishing Touches

Once you’ve finished the drawing portion of your invitation, you get to color in your cake any way you want!

What kind of cake will you create? Brown for chocolate? Or white for vanilla?

You can even make it a rainbow of colorful icing!
